Tour 2 – The hidden Bali

Discover Bali's "hidden" places. This excursion is the ideal companion to the "classic tour" – with plenty of insight into the island's plants and nature.

Participants are picked up directly from their hotel in a VW "Kübelwagen". The first stop is the Taman Ayun royal temple in Mengwi, one of the most beautiful temple complexes in Bali. We then drive along narrow country roads past rice fields to a typical Balinese village market. The islanders' bustling activity and the colourful array of goods make ideal photo opportunities.

Later there is a walk devoted to botany: we stop to see cocoa, papaya, bananas, taro, sugar palms and cassava growing straight out of the ground. A scenic drive takes us through small villages along the Ayung river up into the mountains of central Bali. At the lunch stop, traditional Balinese dishes are served in an original setting.

Well fortified, we set off on a roughly one-hour walk into the cloud rainforest of the Balinese mountains: lush vegetation, giant fig trees, bird's-nest ferns, tree ferns and the sounds of the rainforest in unspoilt surroundings. Afterwards we visit hidden mountain villages far from the tourist routes and the unique nutmeg forest, home to small sacred monkeys. Then return to your hotel.
