Tour 4 – East Bali
Eastern Bali lies in the shadow of the mighty Gunung Agung, the island's sacred mountain of the gods. This day tour combines East Bali's most important cultural and natural treasures into one impressive circuit.
Participants are picked up directly from their hotel in a VW "Kübelwagen". The first stop is the bat cave temple of Goa Lawah, one of Bali's six state temples, whose cave is home to thousands of bats. Close by, in the village of Kusamba, you can watch traditional salt-making on the black sand beach.
We continue to Klungkung, the old royal capital, to visit the historic court hall Kertha Gosa with its impressive ceiling paintings. On the way via Sidemen we pass fascinating rice terraces and small, unspoilt villages – one of the island's most beautiful landscapes.
The highlight of the tour is the visit to the Besakih mother temple, Bali's largest and most important temple complex on the slopes of Gunung Agung. We enjoy lunch with a wonderful view over the hills of East Bali. In the afternoon the tour continues via Selat, past salak plantations (the snake-fruit palm), to the royal baths of Tirta Gangga with their spring-fed pools and water gardens. Then return to your hotel.
