Tour 9 – Impressions of Bali
A combination of the popular day tours "The classic tour" and "The hidden Bali" with an additional day around Ubud. Plenty of background on the island and its people, wonderful photo opportunities and Bali's highlights give this round trip its special character. Overnight stays are at the beautiful Villa Kompiang in Mengwi.
Day 1 – The classic circuit
Pick-up from your hotel in a VW "Kübelwagen". The trip first heads west to the Tanah Lot sea temple, then continues through the district capital Tabanan up into the mountains to the Pura Luhur temple in the jungle of Mount Batu Karu. We drive past Bali's most beautiful rice terraces to Jatiluwih; after the lunch break we visit the flower, fruit and spice market near Bedugul and stop at the Ulun Danu temple on Lake Bratan. To finish, we visit a typical Balinese compound at Baha. Overnight at Villa Kompiang.
Day 2 – The hidden Bali
After breakfast we visit the Taman Ayun royal temple in Mengwi, then drive along narrow country roads to a typical Balinese village market, walk around a sacred village tree (Ficus benghalensis) and stop to see cocoa, papaya, bananas, taro, sugar palms and cassava growing. A scenic drive follows the Ayung river into the mountains; traditional Balinese dishes are served at the lunch stop. In the afternoon a one-hour walk leads into the cloud rainforest, followed by hidden mountain villages and the nutmeg forest with its sacred monkeys. Overnight at Villa Kompiang.
Day 3 – Ubud and around
After breakfast we visit the stonemasons of Batubulan, the gold- and silversmiths' village of Celuk and the artists' village of Ubud with its royal palace and market. After the lunch stop: the elephant cave Goa Gajah, the Durga Kutri temple and finally the woodcarvers' village of Kemenuh. Then return to your hotel.
