An impressive drive follows the west coast to Antosari and on to the sweeping rice terraces of Belimbing with a picnic lunch stop. We continue via Pupuan to Banjar and Bali's only Buddhist monastery, Buddha Vihara, then on to Lovina on the north coast for the night.
Day 2 – From the north into the highlands
After breakfast we drive to the former capital Singaraja and visit an old Chinese temple at its former harbour. In Sangsit we see the rice goddess temple Pura Beji. From there the road winds up into the highlands of Kintamani – famous for its wonderful view over Lake Batur and the volcano of the same name. After the lunch stop we drive to Bangli to visit the unique Pura Kehen temple, and on to the picturesque artists' village of Ubud for the night.
Day 3 – The sacred east

On the way to Sidemen we pass fascinating rice terraces and small villages. We visit the Besakih mother temple, Bali's largest and most important sanctuary on the slopes of the sacred Gunung Agung – lunch with a wonderful view. The trip continues via Selat, past salak plantations, to the royal baths of Tirta Gangga. Overnight in Candidasa.
Day 4 – East coast and return
