Tour 7 – Bali’s artists
The skill of the Balinese is remarkable: whether woodcarvings, silver jewellery or magnificent paintings – the people of this island seem to be born artists. This tour visits the artists' villages around Ubud.
Participants are picked up directly from their hotel in a VW "Kübelwagen". The first stop is with the stonemasons of Batubulan, then on to the gold- and silversmiths' village of Celuk, where you can watch the artistic Balinese at work.
A shopping stroll follows through the artists' village of Ubud – the centre of Balinese painting – with a visit to the royal palace and the market, followed by a relaxed lunch stop.
In the afternoon we visit the elephant cave Goa Gajah with its impressive sandstone carvings and the Durga Kutri temple with more Balinese craftsmanship. If you wish, fine works can be bought in the woodcarvers' village of Kemenuh on the way back. Then return to your hotel.
