Tour 8 – Bali nature & artists
This round trip combines the day tours "Bali nature in West Bali" and "Bali's artists" with a night in the countryside – at Villa Kompiang in Mengwi, an oasis in a tropical garden. A great way to get to know western Bali and the island's fascinating craftsmanship.
Day 1 – The nature of West Bali
Individual pick-up from your hotel in a VW "Kübelwagen". In the potters' village of Pejaten we watch traditional pottery-making. An impressive drive follows the west coast to Antosari and on to the sweeping rice terraces of Belimbing, where a picnic lunch stop is planned. We continue to the village of Munduk with a short walk to the hidden Munduk waterfall, then drive past clove and coffee plantations to the crater lakes – nestled in extinct volcanic craters, surrounded by jungle.
In the evening we reach Mengwi: overnight stay at Villa Kompiang. On request, hostess Kompiang Wati prepares a typical Balinese dinner.
Day 2 – Bali's artists
After a leisurely breakfast at the villa we drive to the stonemasons of Batubulan and the gold- and silversmiths' village of Celuk. A stroll through the artists' village of Ubud with its royal palace and market is followed by a relaxed lunch stop. In the afternoon we visit the elephant cave Goa Gajah and the Durga Kutri temple. If you wish, we stop at the woodcarvers' village of Kemenuh on the way back. Then return to your hotel.
